SUMMARY:Juneteenth Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The 1863 Emancipation Proclamation meant nothing to enslaved people where Union forces did not occupy. This freedom did not occur in Galveston\, Texas until June 19\, 1865\, three months after the Civil War officially ended in April. \n \nFor decades\, Texans and residents of other states have been commemorating Juneteenth or June 19th as the day of freedom for all formerly enslaved people. The day was proclaimed a national holiday in June 2021.\n \nIn partnership with the Slave Dwelling Project\, Magnolia will host an all day Juneteenth program in lieu of our From Slavery to Freedom Tour. Join Joseph McGill and Living Historians from the Slave Dwelling Project as they call attention to the agency of enslaved people through cooking\, blacksmithing\, brick making and storytelling demonstrations. Included with garden admission!\n \nLearn more about the Slave Dwelling Project and the meaning behind Juneteenth. Honor and recognize the Emancipation of those who were once enslaved. \n **Registration is required to participate in the campfire conversation on Friday\, 6/21. This is NOT a sleepover.** \n\n← Back Thank you for your response. ✨\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nName(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nEmail(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\n \nYes\, I would like to participate in the campfire conversation on 6/21\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n \n Submit \n \n \n \nΔ
